The BTEC Level 3 (Extended Certificate A level equivalent) in Travel and Tourism requires applied learning that brings together knowledge and understanding together with practical and technical skills. Students will study specific units related to the Travel and Tourism in the United Kingdom and worldwide


Extended Certificate

For the Extended Certificate you study three mandatory units of which one optional unit.

Unit 1 The World of Travel and Tourism - portfolio assessed
Unit 2 Global Destinations ––this unit is externally assessed
Unit 3 Managing the Customer Experience – externally assessed

An optional unit from a choice of: The Airport Experience, Specialist Tourism, Visitor Attractions or Events, Conferences and Exhibitions.

Assessment Format

In BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate 50% of the course is assessed by external tests/examinations. These are set and assessed by Pearson. Other units are assessed by portfolio evidence.

What can I do at the end of the course?


Learners who have completed this qualification may progress to further learning at Level 3, for example a larger-size BTEC National in the Business/Tourism/IT sector. The qualification carries UCAS points and is recognised by universities alongside other Level 3 qualifications as part of a programme of learning. Progression can be direct to an honours degree or to a Higher National, a Foundation Degree, or a Higher Apprenticeship.
